On March 16, 2020, Bishop McManus announced his decision to suspend the obligation to take part in the Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation due to the specific danger presented by the COVID-19 virus to older people and those with certain health conditions.

He has continued that suspension until the First Sunday of Lent, February 21, 2021, at which time he will reconsider the question as circumstances may require it.
