On September 30 of last year, Pope Francis announced that he will declare two of his predecessors, Blessed Pope John Paul II and Blessed Pope John XIII, as saints.

The canonization ceremony will be held one week after Easter, April 27, 2014, on the Solemnity of Divine Mercy Sunday, a celebration established by Blessed Pope John Paul II during the canonization of Saint Faustina, the Apostle of Divine Mercy.
